Red circles on the ground show where a blow is about to land: dash through it or jump clear. Your sword can knock fireballs out of the air.
Your night in the town
1. Cleanse the four demon gates
Purple pillars of light mark the corrupted gates. Step into a gate's plaza and three waves of demons pour out — 13 at the first gate you take on, 24 at the last.
2. Earn three spirit powers
Moon Arc (Q): a crescent of light that flies forward and cuts through every demon in its path · Fox Fire (E): six blue flames circle you for four seconds and burn anything they touch · Lantern Storm (F): spend a full spirit gauge to blast every demon around you.
3. Collect 24 spirit orbs
Orbs glow on pagoda tops, watchtowers and the tallest roofs. Every four raise your maximum health.
4. Face the Bone Giant
With all four gates clean, a giant skeleton rises in the castle courtyard. Strike its hands when they slam down, and swing up to its skull for double damage.
Tips
- Keep swinging: let go near the bottom of each arc and grab the next lantern before you land to keep your speed.
- Lantern ghosts hover out of reach and spit fire — jump and strike in the air, or hit them with Moon Arc.
- Big purple oni shrug off normal hits; finish your three-strike combo or use a power to stagger them.
- Health comes back on its own a few seconds after you stop taking hits, and cleansing a gate refills it.
- Save Lantern Storm for the moment a wave surrounds you, or for the giant's skull.
Questions
Is Lantern Blade free?
Yes. It is free, runs in your browser and needs no download, no account and no app. Your progress (gates, orbs, best time) is saved on your device.
How do I swing across the town?
Jump, then hold Shift (or the SWING button) while you are in the air. A spirit chain latches onto the floating lantern ahead of you; let go near the bottom of the arc to fly forward, and grab the next one before you land. Running into any wall climbs it, so every rooftop is reachable.
What powers can I unlock?
Each demon gate you cleanse unlocks one: Moon Arc (a crescent of light that cuts through every demon in its path), Fox Fire (six blue flames that circle you and burn anything they touch) and Lantern Storm (spend a full spirit gauge to blast every demon around you). Spirit fills as you strike demons and collect orbs.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Use the left stick to move, drag the right side of the screen to look, and the buttons to jump, swing, strike, dash and use powers. It plays best in landscape with the full-screen button. It needs a browser with WebGL 2, which every recent phone has.
Is this a Demon Slayer game?
No. Lantern Blade is an original game made for AnimeQuiz: the hunter, the town and the story are our own, and it is not affiliated with any anime. The demons come from Japanese folklore: oni, chōchin-obake (haunted paper lanterns) and a gashadokuro, a giant skeleton.
