Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama
ProtagonistA second-year at Salt Middle School with a bowl cut and a blank expression, nicknamed Mob because he blends into the background. He is a more powerful psychic than anyone around him, but he thinks his power is unnecessary and keeps his feelings bottled up so that it never gets out of control; when an emotion builds to 100%, it takes over and his full power bursts out. Arataka Reigen
Main CastMob's boss and mentor, a self-proclaimed psychic who runs the cut-price Spirits and Such Consultation Office. He has no psychic powers at all and is at heart a con man, but his quick thinking, charm and 'special techniques', which are often just a good massage, really do solve most of his clients' problems, and he calls Mob in when a real spirit turns up. He made Mob promise never to use his powers on people, and under the self-interest he cares about the boy more than anyone. In season 2 his online advice videos make him famous as 'Seasoning City's bro'.
Dimple
Main CastAn upper-class evil spirit with red circles on his cheeks, called Ekubo, Japanese for 'dimple'. He first appears as the leader of a cult, LOL, meant to turn him into a god, and loses most of his power when Mob defeats him. From then on he follows Mob around, saying he means to take over the boy's body, while plainly coming to care about him. He can possess people and draw out everything their bodies can do, he coaches Ritsu when Ritsu's powers awaken, and in season 3 the Divine Tree reminds him of his old dream of godhood.
Ritsu Kageyama
Main CastMob's younger brother, a year below him at Salt Middle School: an ace student, a strong athlete and a member of the student council, outgoing where Mob is shy. He secretly longed for psychic powers like his brother's, and when his own awaken in season 1 he trains them with Dimple, grows arrogant for a while and is kidnapped by Claw. He is fiercely protective of Mob and later becomes close friends with Sho Suzuki.
Teruki "Teru" Hanazawa
Main CastThe hidden boss of Black Vinegar Middle School, a handsome, popular esper who used his powers for everything from exams to sport and dismissed people without them as commoners. Losing to Mob changes his outlook completely: he becomes friendlier, joins Mob to storm Claw's 7th Division and rescue Ritsu, and remains Mob's friend and rival from then on. He has a slightly embarrassing habit of going pigeon-toed whenever he uses his powers.
Katsuya Serizawa
SupportingA member of Claw's Ultimate 5 and Toichiro Suzuki's personal bodyguard. Fear of his own uncontrollable powers kept him shut in his room for some fifteen years, until Toichiro came to him with the umbrella he still carries everywhere. Sho Suzuki
SupportingThe son of Claw's leader, Toichiro Suzuki, and a powerful esper himself. Sent to the 7th Division supposedly for training, he is really there to scout talented espers, and he turns out to be working against his father. In season 2 he runs his own resistance against Claw, recruits Ritsu, keeps the Kageyama parents safe and confronts Toichiro himself. He and Ritsu become close friends.
Tsubomi Takane
SupportingMob's childhood friend and the girl he likes, cheerful, easy to get on with and seen by the boys of Salt Middle School as the school idol. She values hard work over natural talent and was never much impressed by Mob's powers, which helped him see that they did not make him special and nudged him into the Body Improvement Club. The two played together often as small children but have barely spoken lately.
Tome Kurata
SupportingA third-year at Salt Middle School and the founder and president of the Telepathy Club, whose aim is to develop telepathy so it can talk to aliens. She spends most of her time lazing about there, yet she is genuinely set on making contact, hunts for telepaths with Mob and becomes one of his good friends.
Musashi Goda
SupportingA third-year at Salt Middle School and president of the Body Improvement Club, with a physique hard to believe on a middle schooler. Raised on a farm, he is kind, has a strong sense of justice and fights only when there is no other choice. He welcomes Mob into the club and supports him every step of the way, and in season 2 he stands his ground to protect Mob when one of Claw's Ultimate 5 comes after him.
Toichiro Suzuki
AntagonistThe 48-year-old leader of Claw, known to its members as the Boss, and a psychic of immense power on a level with Mob. He scouted gifted espers from around the world and spent twenty years building up funds before declaring war on the world in season 2, kidnapping the Prime Minister and making a tower in Seasoning City his base. He is ruthless towards anyone weaker than himself. He is Sho's father.
Keiji Mogami
AntagonistOnce a celebrated psychic who appeared all over the media as a good man who helped people, and now an evil spirit of extraordinary power. In season 2 he possesses Minori Asagiri, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, and when Mob enters her mind, Mogami strips him of his powers and rebuilds his life there without friends or family. Mob comes out of it believing that people can change.
Mob Psycho 100 Character FAQs
Who is the main character of Mob Psycho 100?
Shigeo Kageyama, a quiet second-year at Salt Middle School who is a more powerful psychic than anyone around him. Everyone calls him Mob: the word is Japanese slang for a background character, and it suits a boy who disappears into a crowd. His given name, written 茂夫, can also be read as 'Mobu'. He works part-time for the fake psychic Arataka Reigen and wants nothing more than an ordinary school life.
Does Reigen have psychic powers?
No. Reigen calls himself a spirit medium and runs the Spirits and Such Consultation Office, but he has no psychic powers at all. He gets by on intelligence, charm and quick thinking, solves most clients' problems with advice or a massage he passes off as a 'special technique', and calls Mob in whenever a real spirit appears. For all that, he is a genuine mentor to Mob, and it was Reigen who made him promise never to use his powers on people.
Who is Dimple in Mob Psycho 100?
Dimple (Ekubo in Japanese) is an upper-class evil spirit with red circles on his cheeks. Mob meets him in the third episode, when Dimple is running a cult called LOL that he hopes will make him a god. Mob defeats him, and the weakened Dimple then attaches himself to Mob, claiming he plans to take over the boy's body. He never quite does, and over the series he becomes one of Mob's most dependable allies.
What do the percentages in Mob Psycho 100 mean?
They show how much emotion Mob has bottled up. He suppresses his feelings to keep his power under control, and the counter on screen rises as they build. When it reaches 100%, he is overcome by whatever he is feeling most strongly at that moment, and the full extent of his power is released. When he is pushed far beyond his limits, an unconscious and far more dangerous state takes over, shown as ???%.
Who are the villains in Mob Psycho 100?
The main threat in the first two seasons is Claw, an organisation of espers bent on world domination. Season 1 pits Mob against its 7th Division and the elite espers called the Scars; in season 2, Claw's leader, Toichiro Suzuki, and his Ultimate 5 make their move on Seasoning City. Season 2 also brings Keiji Mogami, an evil spirit of enormous power. Many of Mob's early opponents, including Dimple, Teru and several of the Scars, end up on his side.
