Which Evangelion Character Are You?
Question 1 of 10
You walk into a party where you know almost nobody. What do you do?
About the Neon Genesis Evangelion Character Test
The Which Evangelion Character Are You test is a free, 10-question personality quiz that matches your answers to one of Neon Genesis Evangelion's most iconic characters — from Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Soryu, Misato Katsuragi, to Ryoji Kaji. Rather than testing trivia, it reads your instincts, values, and the choices you make under pressure.
Every answer quietly adds points toward different Neon Genesis Evangelion characters. When you reach the final question, the quiz tallies those points and reveals your closest personality match, plus a short breakdown of the traits that define you. It takes two to three minutes, needs no signup, and you can retake it any time to see how different answers steer you toward a new character.

What this quiz asks you
None of the 10 questions are about Neon Genesis Evangelion trivia — you do not need to have finished the series, or even started it, to get a meaningful result. They are about how you behave: what you do under pressure, what you want, and what you would sacrifice to get it. Here are the first three, exactly as they appear:
1. You walk into a party where you know almost nobody. What do you do?
- — Stay near the wall and hope someone I know turns up.
- — Find a quiet seat and watch everyone else.
- — Make an entrance. They will all know my name by the end of the night.
- — Grab a snack, find the host and get the games going.
2. A friend asks for honest feedback on something they made. You…
- — Say something kind, then worry for hours that I said it wrong.
- — Tell them exactly what I think, in as few words as possible.
- — Point out what is wrong with it, then show them how I would do it better.
- — Ask what they think of it first, then nudge them in the right direction.
3. How do you spend a free afternoon?
- — Practising an instrument where nobody can hear me.
- — Reading on my own somewhere quiet.
- — Feet up, takeaway on the table. The mess can wait.
- — Pottering about in the garden. The watermelons will not water themselves.
How the scoring actually works
Every option carries a weighting toward one or more of the 5 possible results, and the weights are not equal. A strongly characteristic answer moves you three points toward a character; a partial match moves you one. That is why two people who answer similarly can still land on different characters — it is the pattern across all 10 answers that decides it, not any single question.
Because the scoring is deterministic, the same answers always produce the same character. If you retake this quiz and get someone else, it is because you genuinely answered differently, not because there is randomness in it. Several of the questions have no obviously “best” option on purpose — those are the ones doing the real separating.
No personality quiz is a psychological instrument and this one does not pretend to be. What it does do is score consistently against character profiles written from how these characters actually behave across the series, rather than from a one-line stereotype.
Meet the Neon Genesis Evangelion Characters You Can Match With
Every result is a distinct personality type. Here's who you could be matched with and what each character says about you.
Shinji Ikari
Thoughtful, sensitive and quick to put other people first, you often worry that you are letting everyone down. You would rather avoid a fight, but when someone really needs you, you find the nerve to show up.
Rei Ayanami
Quiet and self-contained, you say little and notice a lot. You take your responsibilities seriously, keep your feelings to yourself, and are deeply loyal to the few people you let close.
Asuka Langley Soryu
Confident, competitive and impossible to ignore, you want to be the best and you are not shy about saying so. Under the bravado you care a great deal about what people think of you, and you hate to lose.
Misato Katsuragi
Sharp and decisive when it counts and relaxed to the point of chaos when it does not, you are the friend who makes the plan and then forgets the washing-up. You look after people, even when you are carrying a lot yourself.
Ryoji Kaji
Easygoing, curious and hard to rattle, you keep things light and notice more than you let on. You like to dig until you find the truth, and you have a knack for giving the right advice at the right moment.
