About Mashle: Magic and Muscles
Mashle: Magic and Muscles (マッシュル-MASHLE-, Masshuru) is a comedy fantasy manga written and drawn by Hajime Kōmoto, serialised in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from January 2020 to July 2023 and collected in 18 volumes; Viz Media publishes it in English, and by December 2025 it had more than 12 million copies in circulation. A-1 Pictures' TV anime, directed by Tomonari Tanaka with scripts by Yōsuke Kuroda and music by Masaru Yokoyama, aired a 12-episode first season from April to July 2023 and a 12-episode second season, The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam Arc, from January to March 2024. A third season, the Tri-Magicathalon Divine Visionary Final Exam Arc, is set to begin in January 2027, and a live-action film directed by Yūichi Fukuda is due in March 2027.
In the Magic Realm, everyone uses magic for everything, everyone who can use it bears a mark on their face, and a person's magic decides their place in society; anyone born without it is hunted down. Mash Burnedead was born with none. Found abandoned as a baby by Regro, a kindly old man, he grew up hidden in a forest, training his body until it reached superhuman strength. When a trip to town for cream puffs gets him noticed, a police officer named Brad offers a deal: enrol at Easton Magic Academy and become a Divine Visionary, the elite title given to the school's top student, or be hunted along with his father for the rest of their lives. Armed with a fake mark, Mash bluffs his way through a school built for wizards, punching through the entrance exam's maze, kicking his way into the air in a broomstick match and passing off feats of strength as spells he calls "Muscle Magic".
Season 1 follows Mash and his friends in Adler house, the timid Finn, the gravity mage Lance, the hot-headed Dot and the lovestruck Lemon, as they collect the coins that lead to the title and take on Magia Lupus, a band of coin-stealing noble students from Lang house. It ends with the whole school learning that Mash has no magic. Season 2 opens with a hearing before the Divine Visionaries, who spare him on one condition: he must earn the title fairly. What follows is the Divine Visionary selection exam, with its monster-guarded hunt for keys, a crystal-smashing team battle and one-on-one duels, until the dark mage Innocent Zero attacks the academy. Anime News Network's review of the manga called it a Harry Potter parody with shades of One-Punch Man, and the anime won Best Comedy at the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards for its second season.

What the Mashle: Magic and Muscles Quiz Tests
Our Mashle quiz covers the 24 episodes of the TV anime's first two seasons and nothing else: the manga's later chapters, the novels, the stage plays, the upcoming third season and the live-action film are left out. Easy levels cover the basics: who made the anime, the Magic Realm and its marks, Easton Magic Academy and its houses, Mash's friends and their magic, Mash's favourite food and the season 2 opening. The middle levels follow the story in order, from the entrance exam's maze, the vice-principal, the Duelo match and Lance's Potions lesson, through the coin system and the fight with Magia Lupus, to Mash's hearing before the Divine Visionaries and the first stages of the selection exam. The hard levels are for close watchers: the duel with Carpaccio, Kaldo's game, Innocent Zero's magic and his link to Mash, an episode title, Margarette's and Abel's mottos, the gold-coin rule in Mash's year, the god in Wahlberg's wand and how the Bureau of Magic covers up the truth.
Key Characters
Mash Burnedead is a hero with a permanently straight face: deadpan, blunt and kind, he solves almost every problem by hitting it harder than anyone thought possible, and he would rather be eating a cream puff. His roommate Finn Ames is the group's voice of reason and its worrier, who turns out to be braver than anyone, himself included, expected. Lance Crown, who came top in the entrance exam, is Mash's true rival, a cool gravity mage fighting to save his little sister, Anna, while Dot Barrett is Mash's self-appointed rival, loud, jealous and good-hearted, with a cross under his headband that turns his feelings into power. Lemon Irvine, a gentle girl from a poor family, decided at the entrance exam that Mash is her fiancé and has not changed her mind. Above them stand Headmaster Wahlberg Baigan, who protects Mash from the start, and Finn's brother Rayne Ames, the newest Divine Visionary. Season 1's rivals are Abel Walker, the doll-carrying leader of Magia Lupus, and his loyal friend Abyss Razor; season 2 brings the other Divine Visionaries, among them the ruthless Orter Mádl and the honey-loving Kaldo Gehenna, the music-themed Orca prefect Margarette Macaron and, behind them all, Innocent Zero, whose connection to Mash is season 2's big reveal.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles Fun Facts
- Season 2's opening, Creepy Nuts' "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born", spread worldwide through the "BBBB Dance" challenge. It reached number eight on the Billboard Global 200 and spent 19 weeks in all at number one on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, a run second only to Yoasobi's "Idol".
- Creepy Nuts said "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born" is a word they made up, a spell of their own, and that they could not help seeing their own story in Mash, a boy with no magic in a world where magic is normal.
- Season 1's ending theme, The Dance for Philosophy's "Shū Cream Funk" ("Cream Puff Funk"), is named after Mash's favourite food; the group said they packed the song with cream puffs. It was nominated for the Arrangement Award at the 2023 Reiwa Anisong Awards.
- The anime's official character profile lists Mash's weak point as "opening and closing doors", and he tears more than one door off its hinges in the series.
- Mashle was nominated for Best Comedy and Best Fantasy at the 8th Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and its second season won Best Comedy at the 9th.
- A live-action film directed by Yūichi Fukuda, with Mackenyu as Mash, is set to open on 19 March 2027, distributed by Toho.
