About That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken, shortened by fans to TenSura) began as a web novel by Fuse, posted on the site Shōsetsuka ni Narō from 2013 to 2016. Micro Magazine published it as a light novel series illustrated by Mitz Vah from 2014, and the main story ended with its 23rd volume in 2025; Yen Press publishes it in English, and Taiki Kawakami's manga adaptation has run in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Sirius since 2015. The TV anime is made by the studio Eight Bit. Season 1, directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi with series composition by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and music by Elements Garden, ran from October 2018 to March 2019; season 2 followed in two halves in 2021, season 3 in 2024, and season 4, planned as five cours, began in April 2026. Ninety-six episodes have aired so far, alongside two films, Scarlet Bond (2022) and Tears of the Azure Sea (2026).

Satoru Mikami is a 37-year-old office worker in Tokyo who has more or less made his peace with an uneventful life. When a stranger attacks a younger colleague in the street, Satoru pushes him out of the way and is stabbed. As he dies, a mysterious voice grants him a string of skills, and he wakes up in a dark cave in another world as a small blue slime. He can swallow almost anything and copy what he swallows, and a voice in his head, the Great Sage, analyses everything for him. Deep in the cave he meets Veldora, the Storm Dragon, who has been sealed there for 300 years. The two become friends and give each other names: the slime becomes Rimuru, and both take the surname Tempest. Rimuru then leaves the cave, saves a village of goblins from a pack of direwolves, and finds that every monster he names evolves into something stronger.

What makes the series stand out among isekai stories is how much of it is about building a country. Rimuru gathers goblins, direwolves, dwarf craftsmen, ogres, lizardmen and orcs into the Jura Tempest Federation, and much of the drama comes from trade deals, alliances and the question of how a nation of monsters can earn the trust of its human neighbours. The stakes rise when the Kingdom of Falmuth invades Tempest in season 2 and Rimuru becomes a Demon Lord to undo the damage, then faces the schemer Clayman at the Demon Lords' banquet, Walpurgis. Season 3 turns to the Holy Knight Hinata Sakaguchi and a festival to open Tempest to the world, and season 4 to the Council of the West. Rimuru won Best Protagonist at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2019, season 2 won Best Fantasy there in 2022, and the franchise had 40 million copies in circulation by February 2023.

What the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Quiz Tests

Our That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime quiz covers the 96 episodes of the main TV series that have aired so far: seasons 1 to 3 and the first two cours of season 4. It does not ask about the films, The Slime Diaries, Visions of Coleus, the OADs or the light novels and manga. Easy levels cover the basics: who made the anime, how Satoru dies and becomes Rimuru, Veldora and the shared surname Tempest, Predator and the Great Sage, Shizu, Ranga and the ogres, and what naming a monster does. The middle levels follow the story in order, from Dwargon, Gelmud and the Orc Disaster through Charybdis and Shizu's students, then into season 2 with the Falmuth invasion, Hinata's ambush, the Harvest Festival, Diablo and Walpurgis, and on to season 3's Dungeon and season 4's Council of the West. The hard levels are for people who watched closely: Satoru's dying wish, what Rimuru and King Gazel have in common, a line borrowed from a video game, who gets Shizu's mask, the demon Shizu once fought, Momiji's father, the tournament winner, the Primordials' names and the voice of Satoru.

Key Characters

Rimuru Tempest is an unusual hero: easy-going, curious and a little lazy, a former office worker who would rather make a deal than a war, but who thinks several steps ahead and turns ruthless when the people he looks after are hurt. Veldora, the loud, boastful Storm Dragon who gave him his name, is his first friend in the new world, and later spends his days reading the manga Rimuru brings over from his memories. Around Rimuru grows a court of monsters he has named: the ogre siblings Benimaru, his hot-headed general, and Shuna, the gentle princess who weaves cloth and uses holy magic; Shion, his self-appointed secretary and bodyguard, terrifying in a fight and worse in a kitchen; the spy Souei and the old swordmaster Hakuro; the hobgoblin Gobta, who looks like a fool and keeps proving he is not; and Ranga, the proud, dog-like wolf who would do anything for his master. Shizu, a Japanese woman summoned to this world as a child, shapes the whole story despite appearing for only a few episodes. Then there are the Demon Lords, from the childlike and overwhelmingly strong Milim Nava, who decides Rimuru is her best friend, to the scheming Clayman; Diablo, the Primordial Demon who becomes Rimuru's most devoted servant; and Hinata Sakaguchi, Shizu's former student, who first meets Rimuru as an enemy.
